I was inspired today by the man in the grocery store wearing flip flops. You sir, could quite possibly be dedication incarnate. Though we currently face a possible 3+ inches of snow tomorrow and it is a mere 30 degrees here, you refuse to let that stop your celebration of the first day of Spring. I believe that kind of dedication deserves a cocktail, so cheers to you flip flop man.

DSC_1734This cocktail is a great spring and summer drink, but is also fantastic for brunch as well. If an Easter brunch is your menu, definitely keep this in mind. The ingredients are light, refreshing and crisp. Best of all, they are easy to prepare! You could even batch the recipe and serve by the pitcher if planning for a crowd. Make this at the next family gathering, it's certain to be a crowd pleaser.

If you're ready to welcome the start of spring - even if inside the house - here's what you will need:

    Ingredients

    For the cocktail:

    • 4 fl oz Rosé wine
    • 1 fl oz peach simple syrup (recipe to follow)
    • 1 fl oz vodka
    • 2 fl oz grapefruit juice (fresh squeezed recommended)

    For the peach simple syrup:

    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • ½ cup water
    • ¾ cup frozen peaches

    Batch Spring Rose Cocktail:

    • makes 6 servings
    • 750 ml bottle Rosé wine
    • ¾ cup peach simple syrup
    • ¾ cup vodka
    • 1 ½ cups grapefruit juice

    Instructions

    For the cocktail:

    • Combine all ingredients in a shaker and shake over ice. Empty the shaker and ice into a fresh glass. Garnish with a slice of fresh peach or grapefruit peel -- if you want to get really fancy, flame a citrus peel and watch your friends and family 'ooo' and 'ah' at your skills.

    For the peach simple syrup:

    • Combine water and sugar in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Once sugar is dissolved, add peaches and let simmer about 5 minutes until peaches are infused. Strain into an air tight container.
