Peanut Butter, almond butter, cashew butter...all the butters are just wonderful creamy, gooey, spreadable goodness. Tasty and filling, peanut butter is chock full of heart healthy stuff. Spread on toast, paired with jelly, crushed on pad thai noodles. There are so many applications. When it comes to that time between lunch and dinner, Peanut Butter Energy Bites will have you zipping through the rest of the day.
What's the deal with powdered peanut butter?
The science of how this magical powder has come to exist is beyond me. Ok, perhaps not beyond me thanks to the powers of the almighty Google.
Regardless, the concept of 'powdered peanut butter' is strange at first. PB2 and other powdered peanut butter brands provide all the creamy, sticky goodness of regular fresh ground peanut butter but with up to 85% less the fat calories.
By pressing the fat calorie producing oils from the peanuts and leaving them in powdered form, you can slather up your morning toast without the guilt. All it takes is just a little h20 and four ingredients.
Ok...but an energy bite?
Yes!
Well, maybe more than just one bite please if you're in the company of others. These things will SAVE you.
When that post lunch snack craving comes around or maybe you're stuck in traffic and didn't have time to make breakfast. Store a few of these round snack savers in your center console or purse to keep bad decisions at bay. Particularly when someone puts out a cookie tray in the conference room or driving past your favorite fast food stop.A combination of oats, peanut butter powder, raw honey and chocolate chips all rolled up in one or two sweet and satisfying bite. The PB2 brings all the peanut butter flavor your could ask for along with creamy texture. Raw honey adds just a touch of sweetness and natural antioxidants. Oats aide to silence embarrassing stomach growls and chocolate chips...because chocolate. duh.
Highly recommending the 'Enjoy Life' brand of mini chocolate chips for your bites. The 'mini' shape ensures chocolate in every nibble and the 'Enjoy Life' brand ensures safety for any gluten, dairy or soy allergies. Sounds like a win to me!

'Skinny' Peanut Butter Energy Bites
Ingredients
- ¾ cup powdered peanut butter (such as PB2 brand)
- ¼ cup water
- 3 tablespoon raw honey
- 1 ¼ cup old fashioned rolled oats
- ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a bowl, add first three ingredients and whisk together. After ingredients form a paste, switch to a spatula and stir vigorously until mixture is 'creamy' and there are no clumps.
- Add oats and chocolate chips. Stir well to combine. Oats should be evenly coated with peanut-honey mixture.
- Let chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
- Using an ice cream scoop or spoon, take about 1 tablespoon of energy bite mixture and form into balls.*
Notes
- If hands become too sticky and the mixture sticks to hands instead of rolling into a ball, wash and thoroughly dry your hands before resuming.
- Calorie count will vary depending on brands used, especially for the chocolate chips. Nutrition information updated 5/19/21.

Heather says
How did you calculate the calories? When I calculated it, it was 127 calories per serving.
Lauren says
Hi Heather -
I input the ingredients and quantities into a nutrition label program called nutrifox and it calculates the values, not sure why there's a discrepancy.
Nicki says
I also calculated the nutritional value and found the total amount of calories to be 1,235 for the entire mixture (I just went through and did the math based on the labels, no app or website!) The nutritional information matches if each batch makes 24 bites instead of 12. Still delicious and worthwhile; I just make sure to use a 1/2 tablespoon measurer when making my balls!
Tah says
Good recipe but Actual calories are about twice the stated amount.
Lauren says
Sorry about that! You're totally right, it should be up to date now.
Mandy says
My whole family adores these! Thanks so much !
Jackie says
Great base recipe! Thanks for sharing. I swapped out the mini-chips for sunflower seeds, and added a pinch of kosher salt. Spraying my hands with non-stick spray also helped form the portions a bit easier!
Lauren says
sunflower seeds so like a great swap! Love it!
Holly says
Hey Lauren! I noticed in the comments you mentioned the balls are 4 points a piece on WW. If I enter the nutritional information you have posted my app says they are only 1 point a piece. Can you please re-check the point value for WW? I don’t want to have the wrong nutritional info and think they are 1 point when they are actually 4 points 😆
Lauren says
Hi Holly! I got the point value by creating a recipe and inputting all the ingredients in the app. The honey and the chocolate chips account for a lot of the points. So, yes, it's definitely 4 points per ball. If you skipped the chocolate chips you could definitely lower it, but then again....who wants to skip the chocolate chips? 😂
LeAnn says
What if you use lilys choc chips made with stevia?
Lauren says
sounds like a great swap to me!
lou says
great recipe. question regarding the macro break down. you have it by "serving" would you serving be a single piece measured out by the "ice cream scoop" or do you have it broken down into grams? If in grams, can you please share 🙂
Lauren says
I don't have it in grams right now, but I'll add it the next time we make these! Keep an eye out!
Marydale says
Love these!! My new favorite! Thank you for sharing!
Lauren says
Thank you!!
Elaine says
I have never bought the PB2 product, so I'm going to ask what may seem a stupid question. Is the 3/4 cup mentioned just 3/4 cup powder or 3/4 cup of PB2 peanut butter after the recommended water is added?
P.S. I went to Rutgers University
Lauren says
Hi Elaine! Def not a stupid question! There is water in the recipe, so that will account for the liquid needed to turn the powdered peanut butter into that peanut butter texture. So yes, 3/4 cup peanut butter powder.
Mags says
How many syns please as I’m on SlimmingWorld
Lauren says
Hi Mags - I'm not familiar with slimming world, I'm sorry!
Dawn says
How long do these last in Rutgers. And can they be frozen??
Dawn says
Refrigerator...lol
Thank
Lauren says
I would try to eat them within 3 days. They'll keep for longer but the texture gets a little lackluster. Also, the Rutgers typo really had me going, 'huh?' until I saw this follow up. 🙂
Steph says
Thanks for sharing! These taste great
christina says
do you store in the refrigerator?
Lauren says
Overnight, yes. But for the day they can be left out at room temperature.
Gail says
How many calories ? I’m on weight watchers and need nutritional values please!
Gail
Lauren says
Hi Gail! I don't have the full nutrition label, BUT, I put the recipe into my WW app. It's 4 freestyle points per energy bite (based on a 12 bite yield per recipe.) . Hope that helps!
Vanessa says
Thanks for sharing! The kids love them too!
Jennifer says
These are great! I have loved making energy balls with almond butter but I am in a calorie cutting time and this seems a lot better. The only thing I will change when making these again is add a pinch of salt.
Lauren says
So glad you love them Jennifer!!
Jojo says
I've made these several times with both the plain and chocolate PB2. I have switched up my honey as well and I absolutely love them. One or two satisfy my cravings for something sweet, and without all the guilt!
Lauren says
Thank you so much for your comment! I'm so happy to hear you love this recipe. Also, PB chocolate?! Genius status. Love it!
Marylou says
How many WE points in each?
Lauren says
I'm sorry, I don't know what WE is!
Aleshia dos Remedios says
I make these with Sugar Free Honey and Sugar Chocolate Chips, along with the PB2. So they are absolutely GUILT FREE!😁
Erin says
Wait can you tell me more....sugar free honey? Do they still taste sweet? These are delicious and would love to cut the cal/sugar down even more! Thanks
Mary jo Rebbe says
I've never heard of sugar free honey! I'll have to look that one up. I just made this this morning. These are great!
Kathy Miller says
How many points?
Lauren says
4 freestyle points
Diane says
4 points for how many balls?
Lauren says
4 points per ball
Elizabeth Rossi says
I calculate 77 calories for 1. How did you get 52?
Lauren says
Hey! Thanks for catching that. For some reason, the nutrition label wasn't calculating the chocolate chips correctly and only accounting for 1 tablespoon. Sorry about that, should be updated now.
