Mix together butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, flour, baking powder, salt, spices, and apple cider. Bake at 350F for 25-28 minutes.
Heat the butter. Add apple slices and sauté 2 minutes. Sprinkle the cinnamon over the apples and add the caramel to the pan. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
In a standing mixer, cream the butter until fluffy. Beat in cream cheese. Add in powdered sugar 1 cup at a time. Beat for 1 minute. Add the caramel sauce and beat for 2 minutes.
On the first layer of cake, pipe a wall around the outside edge. Fill with caramel apple filling. Top with the second layer of cake. Frost cake with remaining salted caramel frosting.
